PocketMirror 2.0.5 README.TXT When viewing this file in Notepad, please turn on Word Wrap for best viewing (Edit/Word Wrap) 1) Installation Notes 2) First Synchronization Tips 3) What's New in this release? ================================================================= 1) Installation Notes If you have an original Pilot (1000, 5000, or 1MB upgrade) and are using Pilot Desktop 1.0, you need to uninstall Pilot Desktop 1.0 and upgrade to the latest Palm Desktop before installing PocketMirror. The PalmPilot Desktop 2.x and 3.x software is available as a free download on 3Com's support download page (www.palm.com). You must install the Palm Desktop 2.0 or higher software BEFORE installing PocketMirror. We recommend syncing with the Palm Desktop before installing PocketMirror to insure the HotSync Manager is functioning properly. IF YOU UNINSTALL PALM DESKTOP AFTER INSTALLING POCKETMIRROR, YOU MUST REINSTALL POCKETMIRROR. ================================================================= 2) First Synchronization Tips The first time you synchronize the data between your Handheld and Outlook is different from a regular HotSync because there is no history for PocketMirror to use as a guide during the process. You need to select whether PocketMirror should synchronize the two, have Outlook overwrite the Handheld, or have the Handheld overwrite Outlook. The default is to synchronize the two. If you choose synchronize for your first HotSync, all Handheld records will be added to Outlook and all Outlook records will be added to your Handheld. Note: if you have extensive duplicate records between your Handheld and Outlook, you might want to consider an option other than synchronize. If you are a new Handheld user and have an extensive Outlook database, we recommend that you go to your synchronization settings in the User Manager and select "Outlook overwrites Handheld" for each of the four applications. This setting will erase your Handheld records and copy your Outlook records into the Handheld. If you are a new Outlook user and have a large Handheld database, we recommend that you go to your settings and select "Handheld overwrites Outlook". This setting will erase your Outlook records and copy your Handheld records into Outlook. If you want to make sure all information in both Outlook and the Handheld is preserved, then select synchronize. You may have more duplicate records than you want when you are done, but all data will be preserved. ================================================================= 3) What's new in this release? Version 2.0.5 - Several error messages changed to help user diagnose problem. - Interface issue effecting Outlook 2000 users addressed. Version 2.0.4 - Recurring tasks were not handled correctly under certain circumstances. - Expression Service test would incorrectly report a failure under certain circumstances. Version 2.0.2 - Added category support option for calendar. This allows use of categories for appointments when using add-on handheld DateBook enhancement programs such as DateBk3 from Pimlico Software. - When a contact had 5 or more phone numbers/email addresses the handheld lost the "Show in list" setting when the contact was modified in Outlook. - When a reminder was dismissed in Outlook, PocketMirror saw the appointment as modified. - Added a test to make sure the Expression Service is functioning properly. Version 2.0.1 - Fixed a thread synchronization problem that caused crashes on Windows NT. - Simplified the switching of category handling schemes. Version 2.0 - Name changed to PocketMirror - Performance improvement. - A sync progress monitor option added. On the Miscellaneous tab of each conduit you can enable a progress monitor that will display the progress of your sync. - Added a "Quick Sync Setup" combo box at bottom of the Change Synchronization Settings dialog. You can quickly change all conduits using pre-defined settings, including "Install Apps". - The Handheld display phone is now retained in Outlook. If you hard-reset your Handheld or perform an Outlook overwrites Handheld sync the display phone setting for your contacts is correctly restored. - Email addresses entered into your Handheld are correctly resolved/updated in Outlook. - User settings are saved in a file instead of the registry so they are preserved across uninstall/reinstalls and can be easily copied to a new PC when changing to a new PC or restoring a PC. - The option of not splitting multi-day appointments into multiple (Handheld compatible) appointments. When this option is set, multi-day (or day-spanning) appointments are left intact in Outlook and appear in your Handheld on the beginning day only. A message is placed in the HotSync log warning you about the appointment. - You can now sync multiple Handhelds to the same profile. This allows you to have 2 or more Handhelds with identical data. See the new online help topic "Syncing Multiple Handhelds To The Same Profile" for details. - Syncing will not connect to Outlook if all conduits are turned off (Do Nothing). Also, the initial connect to Outlook is deferred until the first active Outlook conduit is called. - "File As" is only changed when a contact is added to Outlook. If you modify a contact in your Handheld, the "File As" setting is preserved in Outlook. - You can now sync to the same Exchange Server based folders from any PC connected to the server including dial up. =================================================================
